This program, like many others, is a service to the community providing spay and neuter surgeries to animals that most likely would never get spayed or neutered - therefore creating the incredible overpopulation and high euthanasia rate.
All of the surgeries performed at PAWS are done by a licensed veterinarian.
Why is the cost so different?
In a regular veterinary hospital there are many additional options available for animals. For example; IV catheterization, IV fluids, Pre-anesthetic blood work, gas anesthesia, round the clock monitoring, state of the art surgery equipment and facilities. All of those things combined create a much higher cost to the client.
All of the procedures and surgeries done here are performed at the standard of care levels set by the national veterinary association. If the veterinarian feels that after examination your pet does not meet the criteria of being a "healthy animal with no signs of disease", you will be contacted and the surgery will not be performed. You will be referred to a regular veterinary hospital to meet the specific needs of you pet.
When are the surgeries? When do I drop off? When do I pick up?
Fridays are the scheduled PAWS surgery days at Taylor Veterinary Hospital. When you make your appointment the receptionist will give you a designated drop of time. Your pet's will be ready to pick up approximately between 4pm - 6pm. You will be called when your pet is ready to be picked up.
Do I have to pay for everything up front?
Yes. All procedures are to be paid in full at the time of drop off. If the veterinarian finds something unexpected (pregnant, in heat, cryptorchid) you will be contacted to be made aware of the additional charge, and be responsible to pay the additional fees when you pick up your pet.
