We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Veterinarian who thrives in a fast-paced environment for a hybrid role for both Large and Small Animal to join our highly in-demand hospital in Turlock, CA. Taylor ER is Stanislaus County’s only 24-Hour Emergency Hospital. As the only ER in 20+ mile radius we have a high volume of trauma come in the door. We work closely with local GP’s for transfers and referrals and communicate throughout the day with them on wait times, creating a better client experience through inter-hospital communication.
Hospital Overview:
Taylor Veterinary Emergency Hospital has a 24-hour support staff in our 8,500 sq. ft. facility. We are well equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including a Snyder O2 unit, Digital & portable x-ray, Rigid/endoscope, 2 fully equipped OR, 5 Exam rooms, Skills Lab & training classroom, Ultrasounds, & a fully remodeled Idexx Lab. Daily rounding and consultations with fellow experienced veterinarians create a team approach to challenging cases and provides a professionally rewarding experience for individuals that like to practice high level, compassionate veterinary medicine.
Turlock is located in the Heart of the Central Valley, close to all things California! Although it’s a rural area, we are still considered East Bay (San Francisco) making it an easy drive to nearby attractions like Napa Valley, Sacramento, and Oakland. If you are looking to spend time at the beach, horseback riding, biking, hiking, or canoeing; you are a short drive to Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, and all the splendors California has to offer. Taylor ER Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Turlock, CA is Stanislaus County's only 24 Hour Emergency Hospital. We are looking for a veterinarian to take on a unique, hybrid mixed practice role encompassing both Daytime Equine General Practice and Small Animal Emergency medicine!
Compensation & Benefits:
- $100,000 - $120,000 DOE for a full time (40hr/wk) mixed Equine/Small Animal ER role
- Lucrative sign-on and retention bonus available

Ready for flexibility in your schedule and variety in your days? We can tailor caseload to your interests, as our goal is to restart equine services at this location, and could be up to 70/30 equine GP / small animal ER, with an option to transition into full time equine work as that side of the practice grows. Overnight small animal ER shifts are not required, but would be available if desired. To support the rebuilding of the equine practice, we have an equine-trained veterinary assistant ready to join you, and a clinic truck available for farm calls! There are also on-site facilities for haul-in equine patients. Small animal ER mentorship is available for equine-focused DVMs who are interested in a transition into mixed practice. Equine-focused veterinarians not interested in small animal work are encouraged to ask about the option of a Part-Time equine-only role!

Position Overview:
The RVT/Veterinary Technician position is designed for individuals with a passion for animal care and a strong background in veterinary assistance. This role involves working in a fast-paced, 24-hour multi-specialty practice that provides emergency and specialty care to a diverse range of animal patients. The technician will be responsible for assisting veterinarians in various procedures and ensuring the well-being of animals in critical care. The position requires flexibility to work overnight, weekends, and holidays, with a focus on delivering high-quality medical care in a supportive environment.
Essential Position Functions:
- Assist veterinarians in emergency and specialty procedures
- Provide care and support to animals in critical condition
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians
- Monitor animal patients and report any changes in condition
- Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding care and treatment plans
- Participate in continuing education and training opportunities
Additional Position Functions:
Assignment to the specialty medical areas listed below may require the following additional job functions:
Emergency
- Assist veterinarians with a variety of emergency procedures and critical care situations.
- Monitor vitals, place catheters and take x-rays.
- Clean wounds and apply casts or bandages.
- Give injections and take blood samples.
- Experience with CPR protocols and procedures

The Medical Director (MD) is responsible for providing strong leadership for the hospital, managing and mentoring associate veterinarians, and assuring regulatory compliance relating to the practice of veterinary medicine. The MD is also responsible for maintaining an environment of teamwork in which the highest quality veterinary medicine is delivered. In partnership with the hospital leadership team, the MD holds shared responsibility for the financial health of the hospital, directing staff and the overall management of practice operations. The MD also serves as a staff veterinarian in addition to the administrative and leadership duties of the MD role. Effective MDs demonstrate strong work and professional ethics, a positive attitude, and uphold a high standard of patient care.

Essential Functions:
- Maintaining a high quality of progressive veterinary care
- Oversees and gives directives regarding medical standards and quality of care
- Sets policies as they pertain to the practice of medicine
- Works toward making various services work as one team
- In conjunction with appropriate leadership team members, recommends additions to the hospital inventory
- Budgets for new equipment and provides a reasonable cost estimate and return on investment
- Sees patients and handles clinical practice
- Ensures positive communication with clients and between doctors, including the proper transfer of patient care responsibilities
- Reviews patient records for completeness and accuracy and uses them to promote medical excellence
- Appropriately manages controlled drugs
- Reviews and approves requests for alternatives to additional drugs and medical supplies
- Conducts regular doctor meetings
- Performs other duties as assigned by Manager
Administration duties:
- Handles patient care problems, client complaints, and referral partner issues
- Manages veterinary, client, and board complaints and recommends resolutions
- Schedules staff at the hospital to meet practice needs
- Develops medical policies
- Assists in ensuring practice compliance with the State Veterinary Medical Practice Act, OSHA, and AAHA standards
Leading by example:
- Holds licensure in good standing to practice and maintains all required licenses with timely renewals
- Monitors DVM performance and production, provides coaching when appropriate
- Serves as a mentor and role model for all staff veterinarians
Development of the practice:
- Leads candidate interviews of potential DVMs
- Identifies new service opportunities that do not currently exist in the hospital
- Holds ownership for the revenue and success of the practice through monitoring key performance indicators and works with the Hospital Manager to make adjustments to achieve positive results
- Helps identify and plan for upcoming challenges in maintaining hospital operations and possible temporary solutions (locum)
- Performs other duties as assigned by Manager
Qualifications: Education/Experience:
- Doctor in Veterinary Medicine Degree
- 3+ years of clinical experience
- Prior experience in leadership or management preferred
